Richard T. Purvis, Psy.D. Managing Partner

Dr. Purvis has been practicing psychology in the Louisville area for 30 years including work in public service, doctoral education and training, professional consultation, mentoring and direct clinical practice. 

He received his BS degree in psychology from Vanderbilt University and his Masters and Doctor of Psychology from Spalding University. He completed his internship at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. He also holds a Masters of Divinity degree. 

Dr. Purvis was a partner in the pre-existing Bloch, Purvis & Associates, PLLC for 8 years. He has been Managing Partner for the practice since May of 2011. His current interests and theory of psychotherapy include interpersonal neurobiology and its correlates with psychodynamic theory and practice. 

He provides psychotherapy for general clinical issues as well as offering therapy for specialized populations including PTSD, survivors of childhood trauma, GLBT, and couples. In addition to general clinical work, Dr. Purvis also provides Co-Parenting Consultation. 

He was awarded the Outstanding Service Award by the Kentucky Psychological Association in 2004 in recognition of his “significant contributions to psychological practice and advocacy for the underserved.” Prior to that he received several awards for his work in the Kentucky Department of Corrections, Division of Mental Health. He left public service in 2004 finishing his public service career as Director of the Division of Mental Health. 

Dr. Purvis is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Kentucky Psychological Association.
